I’ve seen lots of people doing inspiration maps recently and I figured I’d do the same but then also elaborate on why I like the artists so much.
So from Left to right, starting at the top.
Nina-Serena: I’ve always loved how you draw expressions and particularly faces, all of your characters no matter how subtle the expression look so alive and vivid. As soon as I look at something you’ve done I can immediately pick it out as yours.
Synth: This is the guy that got me drawing again after a two year gap following my Art GCSE. Seeing you improve in a such an amazing way over the years I’ve known you inspires me to keep bettering myself and really does drum in the fact that it’s all about dedication.
Cigar-Blues: Amazing original character design and fantastic use of colours. I’m particularly trying to do is to draw characters in my own way, and you manage to do that every single time.
Boaillustration: Your fantastic sense of colour and amazing drawings of people. Everything you do is beautiful and you pump out so much art I’m amazed.
Daniela Volpari: Such an amazing style and once again immediately recognisable. You go from intimate scenes to fanatical settings with such ease.
JHUBS: Particularly for his accurately and anatomy skills. Yet another artist with a fabulous imagination and the ability to create the weirdest things that just look “right”
Abigail Larson: I love your fairy tail series and your ability to take such well known characters and still make them yours. I particularly love your sketchy style as it’s something I’ve never got the knack of doing.
SIINS: You’ve taken me away from drawing generic looking characters and shown me that no matter what proportion a character is you can always make them beautiful. I love that you get so much contrast in your designs.

I love your beautiful mind. When you take your hat off all these spectacular birds come soaring out spilling ideas and warmth and love.

A few tips everybody should consider. I’ve experienced all those and some more. I’m not good at english but I hope you get it. Go and support some artists out there and let them draw you nice shit. Not as nice as FairyNekoDesu but still will be cool so give them a chance and you’ll be surprised.

THIIIIS.

All of these things.

Especially the deadline. If you don’t have a deadline thats way in advanced it’s not gonna get done by then. I am almost always taking on a ton of projects at once and sometimes need a break from it to: work on stuff for me, work on stuff for friends, search for jobs, be the work slave of parents, actually relax and try to relief stress, technical difficulties, researching on how to do stuff, ect.

Sometimes it’s done in a day. Sometimes it’s done literally a year later. But I always update the people I work with so they know I haven’t forgotten.

Do NOT rush your commissioner. Let them work at their pace and it will be worth it. Rushing them insures a rush job which will very likely make the quality decline.

All this is true. Also, ref sheets are the most important thing ever. I can’t stress that enough. They make the job A LOT easier (instead of having to compare 10 different pics between each other and see that everything fits, you just look at 1!!)  If you plan in commissioning your character a lot, or even if its not yours (like from an anime or something) Either commission one or look for ref sheets of the show (because there are!).

Also i strongly suggest not using Instant Messaging. Information can be lost pretty easily there and it’s hard to come back to it. Use emails instead. The info stays there, and it’s easy to search for it. It’s also an excellent way to keep track of the descriptions, so if either the client or artist made a mistake, you can see the email threads and see who’s right straight away.

also pushy clients LOVE instant messaging. Pls no.

All of this ^

Oh god yes this.

Some legends untold
Some turn to dust or to gold
But you will remember me,
remember me for centuries.

I entirely blame Pete Wentz for this image. Really, go check out Centuries.
